Dan Harmon, the creator of "Community," is close to completing the "Six Seasons and a Movie" prophecy. Donald Glover, a former star of the show, recently mentioned that the script for the movie was finished. However, Harmon clarified that while Glover's statement was nearly accurate, the script is still in progress. Harmon confirmed that the movie will be set on the Greendale Community College campus and expressed his excitement about the project.
Reflecting on his writing process, Harmon admitted to experiencing "good" nervous breakdowns, even shedding tears over the characters and the show's journey. Despite the emotional rollercoaster, he is thrilled about the movie, feeling nostalgic about the show's beginnings in 2009. Co-written by Andrew Guest, the film will feature original cast members including Glover, Alison Brie, Gillian Jacobs, Joel McHale, Ken Jeong, Danny Pudi, and Jim Rash. This production marks the fulfillment of the show's promise of "Six Seasons and a Movie," a phrase that has become a rallying cry for fans.
Peacock and Sony Pictures TV, which announced the film's greenlight in September, described the negotiations as "heavily competitive." As part of the deal, Peacock acquired non-exclusive rights to the full six-season "Community" library. Executive produced by McHale, Harmon, Guest, Russ Krasnoff, and Gary Foster, the movie will bring back the beloved characters from the show's quirky universe. "Community" originally aired on NBC for five seasons, with the final season streaming on Yahoo! Screen.
