Glastonbury Festival is pulling out all the stops this summer, making sure to go out with a bang before taking its usual fallow year to let the fields of southwest England recover from the massive crowds. With around 200,000 festivalgoers expected to descend on Worthy Farm, this legendary music event is set to deliver another unforgettable lineup.
A Star-Studded Lineup to Remember
Festival organizers have officially unveiled this year's lineup, and it’s nothing short of spectacular. From June 25 to June 29, some of the biggest names in the music industry will take the stage, ensuring an electrifying experience for attendees.
Headlining the iconic Pyramid Stage on Friday night will be none other than The 1975, the English band that has taken the UK festival scene by storm. Meanwhile, Olivia Rodrigo, the American singer-songwriter and actress who has captivated audiences worldwide, will be closing out the main stage on Sunday night.
Saturday’s headliner is a true legend—Neil Young. The 79-year-old Canadian-American singer-songwriter will bring his timeless music to the Glastonbury crowd, making for what promises to be a deeply memorable performance. Adding to the excitement, Rod Stewart is set to take on the prestigious “legends slot” on Sunday afternoon, a moment that has historically delivered some of the festival’s most iconic performances.
But wait, there’s more! Charli XCX, fresh off her incredible five-win streak at the Brit Awards, will be lighting up the Other Stage on Saturday night. Her “Brat summer” movement has been making waves, with even the Collins Dictionary naming 'brat' the word of the year—a term defined as "confident, independent, and hedonistic." Expect her set to be one of the festival’s biggest highlights.
Another major act to watch out for? The Prodigy. The English electronic group will close out the Other Stage on Sunday night in what will surely be an emotional moment. This performance marks their first return to Glastonbury since the tragic passing of frontman Keith Flint in 2019. Fans can expect a high-energy set filled with classics like “Firestarter.”
Adding even more diversity to the lineup, Canadian icon Alanis Morissette will be making her long-awaited Glastonbury debut, while the recently reunited Scissor Sisters are set to bring their signature vibrant energy to the festival.
More Surprises on the Way
Of course, this is just the beginning—more acts will be revealed in the coming weeks. And if you missed out on tickets, there’s still hope! A resale will offer another shot at securing a spot at one of the world’s most sought-after festivals. No surprise, Glastonbury sold out in record time, even with ticket prices hitting nearly £380 ($490) per ticket.
The 1975’s Controversial Past & Anticipated Performance
A lot of attention will be on The 1975, fronted by the charismatic and sometimes controversial Matty Healy. Though they’ve headlined plenty of UK festivals, this will be their first time at Glastonbury’s main stage.
Their name has been in the headlines for more than just their music. Last month, a London judge ruled that the band wouldn’t be held personally liable for the financial losses of a Malaysian festival, which was shut down after Healy made a statement against the country’s anti-LGBTQ+ laws and kissed his male bandmate on stage. The backlash in Malaysia was fierce, with authorities shutting down the Good Vibes Festival, leading to a legal battle over 1.9 million pounds ($2.4 million) in losses. While some praised Healy for taking a stand, others—including LGBTQ+ advocacy groups—criticized the band for potentially putting the local queer community at risk.
Glastonbury’s Unique Experience
Unlike many festivals, Glastonbury doesn’t kick off its main performances right away. The first two days, Wednesday and Thursday, are dedicated to attendees arriving, setting up camp, and soaking in the magical atmosphere of Worthy Farm. Expect spontaneous performances, quirky pop-up events, and an infectious buzz leading up to the weekend’s massive lineup.
But let’s not forget one of the biggest unknowns—the weather. Will festivalgoers be treated to clear skies and sunshine, or will Glastonbury once again turn into the ultimate mud bath? Either way, for those lucky enough to be there, this year’s festival is shaping up to be another legendary edition of one of the world’s most famous music events.
