At the 26th Costume Designers Guild Awards, "Barbie" and "Poor Things" stole the spotlight. Holly Waddington, an Oscar nominee, clinched the excellence in period film category for her remarkable work on "Poor Things." On the other hand, Jacqueline Durran, also an Oscar nominee, nailed the excellence in sci-fi/fantasy film award for her exceptional work on "Barbie."

In the contemporary costume category, Sophie Canale, the costume designer for "Saltburn's," emerged as the winner.

The late Shawna Trpcic, who passed away last year, posthumously won for her outstanding work on the Disney+ show "Ahsoka."

Wendi McLendon-Covey took on the role of the night's host. Annette Bening, who received the Spotlight Award, expressed her gratitude for her mentors, including Albert Wolsky and Julie Weiss. Unfortunately, due to COVID restrictions, Bening was unable to accept the award in person.

The event also touched on the theme of pay equity, shedding light on the industry's long-standing pay discrepancies. With IATSE Basic Agreement negotiations looming in March, the guild is pushing for change. Costume designers like B. Ã…kerlund and Mandi Line used their outfits to reflect the guild's fight for pay equity.

Fran Drescher, president of SAG-AFTRA, opened the show with a recorded message, expressing support for the upcoming negotiations and the guild's commitment to pay equity. Winners were celebrated in various categories, showcasing the incredible talent and creativity in costume design across different mediums.
