Horizon: An American Saga - A Wild West Adventure

At the Cannes Film Festival, Kevin Costner had a moment that got him all choked up. The crowd at the Grand Lumiere Theatre gave him a long, thunderous standing ovation during the world premiere of his latest project, "Horizon: An American Saga." Costner, who's not just acting but also producing and directing this Western epic, couldn't hold back his tears as the audience cheered and chanted his name.

"I'm sorry it took me so long to realize I should say something," Costner joked as he wiped away tears, as seen in a clip shared by Variety. "But seriously, this means the world to me. It's not just about me—it's about everyone who believed in this project, who worked tirelessly on it. This industry can be tough, but moments like this remind me why I love it. There's truly no place like being here at Cannes. My kids are going to hear all about this!"

The Cannes audience got a sneak peek at the first chapter of "Horizon," a sweeping saga that Warner Bros. promises will cover everything from the Civil War to the settling of the American West. It's a story of Americana and patriotism on an epic scale, something Costner has been dreaming of since way back in 1988 when he first conceived of "Horizon" as a single movie.

But bringing this vision to life hasn't been easy—or cheap. Costner has poured at least $20 million of his own money into the project, even mortgaging a gorgeous waterfront property in California to help fund the $100 million-plus production. Yet, despite the challenges, he's feeling incredibly grateful.

"It's been quite the journey," Costner shared after the screening of the three-hour first installment. "I feel incredibly lucky to be here, to have this moment. And hey, there's three more chapters to come! I never thought this would happen, but here we are. Thank you all for being a part of it. I hope it was worth the wait!"

Apart from Costner, "Horizon" boasts a star-studded ensemble cast including Sienna Miller, Sam Worthington, Giovanni Ribisi, and many more. Excitement is building as the first chapter gears up for its theatrical release on June 28, with the second installment following hot on its heels on August 16. It's shaping up to be one heck of a ride through the Wild West, and audiences can't wait to saddle up and join the adventure!
