At CMA Fest over the weekend, Jack shared with US Weekly how the judges — Luke Bryan, Katy Perry, and Lionel Richie — really boosted his confidence. "Just the confidence of them kind of encouraging me to do what I do as an artist," Blocker said. "It's tough in Nashville, 'cause you watch people climb the charts and you're like, 'I want that to be me. Should I be doing something that they’re doing?'"
Here are some of the exciting takeaways Jack shared:
- Stay True to Yourself: The judges repeatedly advised Jack to embrace what makes him unique. "Even if it's weird facial expressions by the end of it. But just lean into that and be you as an artist," they told him.
- Confidence Boost: Jack felt their encouragement deeply and ran with it during the show, believing in himself more than ever.
Despite initially thinking he and Katy Perry got off "on the wrong foot," Jack now considers her a "good friend" and says they've remained "close." He shared a funny moment when Katy asked him, "What happens if you win this thing?" to which he replied, "I don’t know. I have no idea. I haven't gotten that far yet."
Jack's journey didn't end with "American Idol." He's been blown away by the support from fans since the show, calling it "so cool." Performing at CMA Fest was a "dream come true" for the Dallas-born singer. "I've been wanting to do what I love to do as a career for a long time and it’s always felt like a distant dream," he said. "It feels real right now."
Last month, Abi Carter was crowned the winner of Season 22, beating out Jack and 23-year-old singer Will Moseley. Despite not taking the top spot, Jack is excited to "keep going" and continue pursuing his passion.
So, while Jack Blocker might not have the title of "American Idol," he's got a bright future ahead, armed with invaluable lessons and a ton of fan support.
