Jennie Garth recently opened up about her memories of Shannen Doherty on her podcast, I Choose Me, and shared some heartfelt reflections on their last encounter. Garth, who is now 52, looked back on Doherty’s passing at the age of 53 and the final moments they spent together. Garth was joined by her close friend and therapist, Adele House, on the latest episode of her podcast. During their conversation, she reminisced about their last meeting, which happened around last year's '90s Con in Florida. At this event, the cast of *Beverly Hills, 90210* came together for a panel discussion, bringing together old friends and familiar faces.
After the convention, Garth shared that Doherty had to quickly return to Los Angeles. Doherty was flying back on a private plane with a friend and had generously offered anyone who needed a ride the chance to join her. This included Jason Priestley, who was headed to Nashville. Garth was touched by the offer but also a bit hurt because, at that time, she wasn’t invited to join them.
Even though Garth's destination was New York, and not Los Angeles, Doherty made a point to approach her before departing. She extended a warm invitation to Garth, saying, “We’re going on this plane. You’re welcome to come with us, Jennie.” Garth can vividly recall this moment and it has stuck with her, replaying in her mind.
This gesture, according to Garth, exemplified Doherty’s nature despite their sometimes complicated relationship. “Our relationship was complicated at times, influenced by outside forces,” Garth reflected, “but we still had a deep love for each other.”
In her tribute, Garth described Doherty as “one of the most generous people” she knew. She admired Doherty’s strength and fighting spirit, saying that Shannen “was always a fighter” and stood up for what was important to her and for those she cared about.
Garth also took to Instagram to express her ongoing grief over Doherty’s death. She wrote about the genuine connection they shared, despite the public drama that often surrounded them. “Our connection was real and honest,” Garth noted. “Even though we were often pitted against each other, that didn’t reflect the truth of our relationship. It was built on mutual respect and admiration.” She continued to describe Doherty as “courageous, passionate, determined, loving, and generous,” and said that she would always hold a special place for her in her heart. Garth's heart also goes out to Doherty's family, her dog Bowie, and everyone who loved her.
