The Hollywood drama is heating up again, and this time, Kevin Spacey has something to say. The Oscar-winning actor fired back at Guy Pearce’s recent allegations, telling him bluntly: "Grow up. You are not a victim."
The controversy started when Pearce appeared on The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast and claimed that Spacey had "targeted" him on the set of L.A. Confidential back in 1997. According to Pearce, the experience was so uncomfortable that he only felt safe when co-star Simon Baker was around, as Spacey’s attention would shift elsewhere.
Pearce also touched on the impact of the #MeToo movement, calling it a "really incredible wake-up call." He admitted that when allegations against Spacey and others came to light in 2017, he was overwhelmed with emotion. "I was in London working on something, and I heard [the reports], and I broke down and sobbed, and I couldn't stop," Pearce shared. "I think it really dawned on me the impact that had occurred and how I sort of brushed it off or blocked it out."
While acknowledging the past, Pearce hesitated to fully label himself a victim. "Even though I probably was a victim to a degree, I was certainly not a victim by any means to the extent that other people have been to sexual predators," he explained.
After THR reached out to Spacey’s team for a response, the actor took matters into his own hands, addressing Pearce directly on X (formerly Twitter). His message? He wasn’t buying the claims.
"We worked together a long time ago," Spacey stated. "If I did something that upset you, you could have reached out to me. We could have had that conversation. But instead, you’ve decided to speak to the press, who are now, of course, coming after me, because they want to know what my response is to the things you said. You really want to know what my response is? Grow up."
Spacey didn’t stop there. He pointed out that Pearce had once gone out of his way to visit him in Georgia while he was filming Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil—a move that, in Spacey's eyes, contradicts Pearce’s current claims.
"I mean, did you tell the press that too, or does that not fit into the victim narrative you have going?" Spacey asked, throwing shade at Pearce’s allegations. "I apologize that I didn't get the message that you don't like spending time with me. Maybe there was another reason, I don’t know, but that doesn't make any sense. That you would have just been leading me on, right? But here you are now on a mission, some 28 years later, after I’ve been through hell and back."
The former House of Cards star closed out his response with a challenge. "You want to have a conversation? I'm happy to do so, anytime, anyplace. We can even do it here, live on X, if you like. I’ve got nothing to hide. But Guy—you need to grow up. You are not a victim."
As of now, Pearce’s camp hasn’t responded to Spacey’s remarks. With tensions flaring and the internet buzzing, it remains to be seen whether Pearce will accept Spacey’s offer for a live discussion—or if this back-and-forth will continue to unfold in the headlines.
