Shifty Shellshock, the frontman of the rap-rock band Crazy Town, has passed away at the age of 49. Born Seth Binzer, he died at a residence in Los Angeles, as confirmed by the Los Angeles Medical Examiner. The exact cause of his death remains undisclosed.

In a heartfelt statement published by The Sun on Saturday, Shellshock's family expressed their deep sorrow, emphasizing his unwavering dedication to music and fans. They acknowledged his lifelong struggle with addiction, a battle fought under the harsh glare of public scrutiny. Despite his relentless efforts to overcome his demons, he ultimately succumbed.

"Seth was a troubled soul, but he was a beautiful one and he had a heart of gold," his family recalled, reflecting on his complex persona that touched many lives.

Crazy Town skyrocketed to fame with their 1999 hit single "Butterfly," which soared to the top of the US Billboard Hot 100 chart in 2001. Their debut album, "The Gift of Game," became a massive success, selling 1.6 million copies. However, the band disbanded in 2003 amidst declining popularity in subsequent musical ventures.

The lineup of Crazy Town over the years featured a diverse array of musicians, including co-founder Bret "Epic" Mazur, DJ Rick One, Mark White, Adam "DJ Adam 12" Bravin, Charles "Rust Epique" Lopez, and the late Adam "DJ AM" Goldstein.

Following a hiatus, Binzer and Mazur resurrected Crazy Town in 2007 and dropped a new album in 2015. Despite their efforts, Mazur departed from the band in 2017, prompting Binzer to rebrand the group as Crazy Town X.

Binzer's struggles with addiction were publicized through his appearances on VH1's reality series "Celebrity Rehab." He first sought treatment for cocaine addiction in 2008 during Season 1 and returned in Season 2 after a relapse, under the guidance of Dr. Drew Pinsky. His journey was further chronicled in the spin-off series "Celebrity Rehab Presents Sober House" in 2009 and 2010.

Tributes poured in following news of Shellshock's passing, with many sharing fond memories and condolences. Photographer Mike Azira reminisced about their shared past, recalling Shellshock's youthful spirit and boundless potential.

The legacy of Shifty Shellshock and Crazy Town extends beyond their musical achievements, resonating deeply with fans and peers alike. Despite the band's turbulent journey and personal struggles, Shellshock's impact on the music industry and those who knew him remains indelible.
