Taraji P. Henson, known for her role in "The Color Purple," shared her mantra at the 2024 ABFF Honors, revealing a tattoo on her bicep that reads "The Truth." She emphasized the importance of speaking one's truth, believing it sets individuals and others free, a message resonating deeply with the audience. Henson's journey in Hollywood has been marked by challenges, especially for Black actresses, as she bravely addressed issues like pay inequity and substandard services for Black talent.

Despite facing backlash and false rumors, particularly regarding a supposed feud with Oprah Winfrey, Henson remains committed to advocating for change in the industry. Her courage has been recognized, earning her a spot among Time's Women of the Year. Currently, she's working on the Peacock limited series "Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist," alongside Kevin Hart and Samuel L. Jackson.

Accepting the ABFF's excellence in the arts award, Henson expressed gratitude for the progress made in Hollywood. She envisioned a world where multiple Black women could be celebrated simultaneously, a stark contrast to earlier times when it felt like Black women were pitted against each other. She encouraged fellow creatives to persevere, emphasizing the importance of finding joy even in the darkest moments.

ABFF Honors, founded in 2016, aims to recognize excellence in the film and television industry. The event, hosted by Tommy Davidson, featured awards presented to Jeffrey Wright, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Mara Brock Akil, and Garrett Morris, among others. The fan-favorite movie of the year went to Cord Jefferson's "American Fiction," highlighting the diverse talent celebrated at the event.

Sponsored by Cadillac, Amazon MGM Studios, Sony Pictures Entertainment, and Fulton Films, ABFF Honors is a testament to the industry's commitment to diversity and excellence. Executive produced by Nicole and Jeff Friday, along with Suzanne de Passe and Rikki Hughes, the event showcases the best in Black entertainment and creativity.
