A Sunday With Terry Crews: Burgers, Books, and Big Laughs

Terry Crews isn’t just the guy with the megawatt smile and the pec-popping charisma. He's a full-on force of nature — a former NFL player turned Hollywood mainstay, celebrated for his energy, warmth, and versatility. Whether you know him as the iconic Old Spice guy, the lovable Terry Jeffords on Brooklyn Nine-Nine, or the over-the-top Latrell Spencer in White Chicks, there’s no denying the man is unforgettable.

But beyond the bright lights of TV studios and red carpets, Sundays are sacred for Crews. That’s his day to unwind, recharge, and soak up time with the people he loves — especially his wife, Rebecca King-Crews, and their five grown kids. We caught up with Terry to walk through his perfect Sunday in L.A., and spoiler alert: it involves everything from Eggslut to IPIC.

☀️ Early Bird Energy: "Sleeping In" at 6:30 A.M.

“I’m up early no matter what day it is. I mean, when I sleep in, it's like 6:30 or 7 a.m. That’s sleeping in for me,” Terry laughs. "Normally, I’m up by 4:30 or 5 a.m. It’s just who I am."

Even on Sundays, he doesn’t skip a workout. “I keep it light — mostly cardio and active recovery — but it’s a must. I like to break a little sweat to start the day.”

🥓 Erewhon Breakfast… Even If He Doesn’t Eat It Yet

Now here’s the twist: Terry’s been intermittent fasting for 15 years, meaning he doesn’t eat until 2 p.m. — but that doesn’t stop him from doing a big breakfast pickup.

“There’s an Erewhon near us that does killer breakfast,” he shares. “Even though I’m not eating yet, I’ll swing by and grab bacon, eggs, breakfast burritos, you name it. Sundays are when the kids usually roll through, so I just stack everything on the stove and tell them, ‘Leave me something, please!’”

🎶 Sonic Sundays and Church at Home

At 10 a.m., it's praise time — but with a Crews family twist.

“My wife started her own church during the pandemic. It’s called L.A. Life Church. We do something called Sonic Sundays — it’s like if NPR’s Tiny Desk had a baby with Sunday service,” Terry says with pride.

It’s all online and packed with music and reflection. “We record during the week, and on Sunday mornings we watch it together as a family. It really changed how we do church — more intimate, more meaningful.”

👟 Old Town Pasadena Strolls & Family Time

After service, the Crews crew heads to their favorite hangout: Old Town Pasadena.

“We walk around, grab coffee at Alfred, and stop by my wife’s boutique,” Terry says. “Her shop, Rebecca Crews, is tucked into Hugus Alley, and our daughter helps run it. I also have a little office and studio nearby, so we’re always around.”

His go-to order? “Double espresso, no sugar, no cream. Just hits right.”

🍳 Brunch — But Make It Breakfast-for-Lunch at Eggslut

By around 1:30 p.m., it’s finally time to eat. And if Terry’s near Glendale, there’s one spot that gets him hyped every single time.

“I love Eggslut. The name always gets a laugh, but the food is legit,” he grins. “Double bacon, double egg sandwich, a little side salad with arugula and parmesan, and sometimes an OJ. It’s the perfect brunch-that-feels-like-breakfast.”

Timing is everything though — they close at 2 p.m. “I’m usually one of the last customers. They know me by now,” he chuckles.

📚 A Bookstore Break in the Digital Age

Post-lunch, it’s time to fuel his other big love: books.

“I’ve got a huge personal library — we’re talking 10,000 books,” Terry says. “So when I hit the Americana in Glendale, I always pop into Barnes & Noble. Those are getting rare, but I can spend hours in there just exploring.”

Crews is currently reading The Weight of Air by David Poses. “It’s powerful. The author talks about his addiction to heroin and his journey through recovery. It's raw, vulnerable — it really moved me.”

🎬 Movie Night… With a Theater Experience

Around 5 p.m., Terry’s ready to settle into one of his favorite rituals: a movie at the theater.

“I love the theater. I love the smell of popcorn, the laughter, the gasps — it’s the community energy. At home, it’s just not the same,” he explains.

He prefers throwback flicks or comedies and usually catches them at IPIC. “I’m a gold member — almost platinum,” he jokes. “If you're going to do the movies, do it right. Get the comfy seats, good food. Make it an experience.”

🍔 Cheat Day = In-N-Out Burger Time

Dinner? That’s where things get fun. Sunday is cheat day — and that means one thing: In-N-Out.

“Oh yeah. Double-doubles, no hesitation,” Terry says. “Sometimes we’ll try a new spot in L.A. — like Majordomo if it’s open — but most places are closed on Sundays. So nine times out of ten, it’s In-N-Out.”

🏈 Still Got Love for the Game

If there’s a big sporting event on, especially football, you might find Terry at SoFi Stadium.

“Funny thing is, I played for both the Rams and the Chargers back in the day,” he grins. “So when either team invites me, I’m the biggest fan — for that game. They both ended up in L.A., so they both claim me.”

Classic Terry — no favorites, just big love for the game.

🌙 Wind-Down Mode: Lights Out by 8:30 P.M.

Believe it or not, Terry’s day starts winding down by 8 p.m.

“My wife jokes that we go to bed like third graders,” he laughs. “But I need that early sleep. I’ll never catch a movie that starts after 7 — nope, I’m out by 8:30.”

He’s big on shutting down properly: curtains closed, phone away, face washed, book open. “That last hour in bed with a good book? That’s my happy place,” he says. “I always leave off at a good part so I’m excited to pick it up again. And yeah… I’m the guy who gets sad when a book ends.”

🎤 Lights, Camera, Crews!

While many know him from roles in Everybody Hates Chris, The Expendables, and America’s Got Talent (which he’s hosted for six seasons now), it’s clear that off-camera, Terry’s just as captivating.

“I’m a honey-baked ham,” he laughs. “I love the spotlight, but more than that, I love connecting. Hosting AGT? Every contestant reminds me of a younger me chasing dreams.”

Terry Crews, the athlete-turned-actor-turned-artist, author, and all-around entertainer, lives every day with passion — but Sundays? Those are for peace, pancakes, and people he loves.
