Teyana Taylor & Iman Shumpert’s Divorce Battle: Leaks, Legal Drama & Shocking Claims

Written by Published

The divorce drama between Teyana Taylor and Iman Shumpert seems far from over, as new legal filings suggest tensions are still running high. In a recent court document dated Tuesday, March 18, obtained by PEOPLE, Taylor, 34, accused her former husband of nearly seven years of leaking their supposed "divorce settlement" to the media. She is now asking the court to hold him in contempt.

Allegations of a Leaked Settlement

Taylor pointed to a suspicious timeline, claiming that after she posted photos with her rumored new boyfriend, Aaron Pierre, on Oscar night (March 3), reports of her "divorce settlement" started circulating on March 12. According to her, the only way such documents could have been made public was if Shumpert himself leaked them to entertainment blogs. However, she argues that no such settlement even exists.

"Everything that either party received in the divorce was awarded by the Court," Taylor's filing stated, emphasizing that she and Shumpert had never actually agreed on a settlement outside of the court's ruling. The couple's divorce was officially finalized on July 1, 2024.

Taylor is seeking legal consequences for what she claims is her ex-husband’s "bad faith, abusive, and vexatious conduct." She has requested a hearing, a $1,000 penalty against Shumpert for contempt, and full coverage of her legal fees.

Shumpert's Denial and Legal Defense

On March 19, Shumpert’s attorney, Stephen C. Steele, responded to the allegations, firmly denying that the former NBA player had anything to do with the leak. In a statement to TMZ Sports, Steele asserted, "My client, Mr. Iman Shumpert, has never whatsoever leaked any allegations or claims stated in any of the pleadings."

Shumpert reportedly remains committed to keeping the divorce details private, in accordance with the court order that sealed the case files. "He has absolutely no interest in discussing any of these private and personal details with any media or any parties not directly involved with this case," Steele added.

Teyana Taylor Speaks Out

Not one to stay silent, Taylor addressed the rumors head-on during an Instagram Live session on March 19. She dismissed claims that she was trying to have Shumpert jailed for contempt, clarifying, “I never tried to send Iman to jail. I’m still not trying to send Iman to jail. However, I have to file a motion to get him to leave me alone so we can both go and live our life in peace.”

She also highlighted a pattern she has noticed—whenever she makes career moves or gains public attention, fresh news about her divorce mysteriously surfaces. "I post my little picture at the Oscars, and it does 1.4 million views. Then, the next day, all of a sudden, here come these fake divorce settlements," she said.

Clearing Up Financial Rumors

Taylor was also quick to address speculation about a financial settlement, shutting down any assumptions that she walked away from the marriage with anything she didn’t earn herself. "Let’s get this gold-digger s--- out the way," she declared. "Every single car that I walked away with, I literally paid for out of my pocket. I bought my tour bus with my hard-earned money. I bought my Maybach after Iman crashed my Rolls Royce and never replaced it. Let’s be very clear, I left with what I came with."

Court Orders and Next Steps

A judge has now ordered Taylor and Shumpert to appear in court on June 24, with a mandatory mediation conference scheduled for or before June 23. This legal development follows the couple’s long and private battle, which was only made public when TMZ revealed in November 2023 that Taylor had filed for divorce back in January of that year—nine months before the couple announced their separation.

Taylor expressed her frustration over the public exposure of her private matters, writing in an Instagram post, "I mind my business, don't bother nobody & y'all know I've never played about my children, family & our privacy." She made it clear that she had never spoken to the media about her divorce and was heartbroken that private court documents had been leaked. "It is very heartbreaking that someone would take out the time to make such a private matter public for the world to see."

With the next court dates set and tensions still running high, it’s clear that the drama between these two is far from over. Will the legal battle finally come to a resolution, or will more surprises unfold? Only time will tell.
