Zendaya's latest role in Luca Guadagnino’s “Challengers” marks a refreshing departure from her usual teen and 20-something roles. In an interview with Vogue, the 27-year-old actress pondered whether audiences would "buy her as her own age, or maybe a little bit older, because I have friends that have kids, or are having kids."
The Emmy-winning star of "Euphoria" shared that she's already contemplating her future children's lives, expressing a desire for them to have a normal and private upbringing away from the fame spotlight. She mused, "[I’m asking myself], what does my future look like? Am I going to be a public-facing person forever?"
Zendaya, who has been dating "Spider-Man" co-star Tom Holland since at least 2021, envisions a life where she can "make things and pop out [in public] when I need to pop out, and then have a safe and protected life with my family."
Despite this, she admitted to feeling "massive anxiety" about the idea that stepping away from the spotlight could lead to a loss of public interest. Zendaya reflected on her complex feelings about fame and the public eye, acknowledging that as an adult, she's only now starting to question her past choices, realizing that her current life is all she's ever known.
"I’m almost going through my angsty teenager phase now, because I didn’t really have the time to do it before," she said, referring to her early start as the breadwinner of her family.
Regarding her future with Holland, Zendaya remained coy, neither confirming nor denying any plans for marriage or starting a family. However, she expressed immense pride in her boyfriend's return to the stage for a new London production of "Romeo & Juliet" in May, stating she "couldn’t be more proud" of him.
