Alban Bagbin Champions Return of Asante Treasures: A Call to Reclaim History

Written by Published

The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, thinks it's time to bring back Asante’s royal regalia and artefacts that were taken during the 3rd Anglo-Asante War. This war, way back in 1874, was a big deal – they even raided the Asantehene's palace and caused a lot of loss.

So, Speaker Bagbin got this sweet invite from Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to join the 150th Anniversary bash in Kumasi. He's super excited to see those stolen treasures and share why the Sagrenti War is such a pivotal part of Ashanti history.

Plus, it’s also marking 25 years of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II's reign, so they're throwing a massive symposium on February 6, 2024, followed by a grand durbar on February 8, 2024. They had to move the main event to Thursday because Tuesday is a no-black attire day, but they'll be wearing black to honor the fallen.

Oh, and there's this massive 700-page book on Asante Kingdom's history dropping at the event. Can't wait to dive into that treasure trove of knowledge!
