At the New York City premiere of Dune: Part Two, Dave Bautista spoke exclusively to PEOPLE about his admiration for his costar Josh Brolin, who portrays Gurney Halleck in the film. Bautista, known for his role as Beast Rabban, expressed his awe at working alongside a star-studded cast, including Stellan Skarsgård, Christopher Walken, Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Austin Butler, Florence Pugh, and Brolin.

Reflecting on his Marvel days, Bautista shared insights into his bond with Brolin, highlighting the intimacy of their conversations during their time together on the Marvel sets. “That's where we got to know each other,” Bautista recalled. “I've known Josh for years, and we really got, I think, close during our conversations, very intimate conversations during our Marvel years.”

Bautista also reminisced about a memorable interaction with director Denis Villeneuve on the set of Dune: Part Two. “My favorite memory was my first day at work, when I was just there for costume fittings,” he shared. “Denis had come in to say hello to me. I was dying to have this conversation about the character because he's more fleshed out, he's more developed in this. And I said, ‘Let's talk about it. Who is he? What do you think?’ And he said, ‘Let me dream about it tonight and I'll tell you tomorrow.’ ”

Bautista's enthusiasm for his role and his colleagues was palpable as he discussed his deep respect for Villeneuve's commitment to character development. “I knew that he was going to come back, and we were having this very special, intimate conversation about the character,” he shared. “That's what my experience is with him. Even when my parts aren't that big, he's just invested, invested in my characters and invested in me.”
