DNC Backing Biden's Legal Defense Contrasts with GOP's Support for Trump

The Democratic National Committee has been footing the bill for President Joe Biden's legal expenses related to the investigation led by special counsel Robert Hur. Since July 2023, they've been shelling out over a million dollars to Bob Bauer's law firm each month, totaling more than $1 million. They've also paid about $905,000 to Jennifer Miller's law firm, but since Miller has been representing the DNC for a while, it's not clear how much of that was for Biden's legal fees. Interestingly, the DNC's payments to these firms have increased significantly over the past year, coinciding with Biden's legal challenges.

Contrary to popular belief, the DNC clarified that the money for Biden's legal defense isn't coming from grassroots donors. They emphasized that every dollar donated by supporters goes directly towards voter outreach, not legal fees. This distinction was made in response to criticisms of the Republican Party's support for Donald Trump's legal battles.

Trump's campaign has accused the Democrats of hypocrisy, pointing out that while they criticize RNC contributions, they've been quietly covering Biden's legal costs. Trump himself has faced numerous legal battles, costing him and the Republican Party tens of millions of dollars. His various fundraising committees and PACs have spent nearly $100 million on legal bills since he left office, with much of it going towards defending him against criminal charges and civil trials.

The RNC, on the other hand, has covered legal bills for Trump's family and allies in the past but stopped doing so after he announced his 2024 candidacy to maintain impartiality. However, a part of their joint fundraising operation with the Trump campaign still contributes to Trump's legal defense fund.

In summary, while the DNC is supporting Biden's legal challenges, they maintain that none of the money donated by grassroots supporters is used for this purpose. Meanwhile, Trump and the Republican Party continue to grapple with mounting legal expenses from his time in office.
