Former President Donald Trump’s daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, endorsed as co-chair of the Republican National Committee, asserted on Wednesday that Republican voters are keenly interested in the RNC footing Trump’s legal bills. Lara Trump, speaking at the former president’s South Carolina campaign headquarters, emphasized the significance of a GoFundMe page initiated by Trump’s supporters, which she sees as a reflection of public outrage over perceived attacks against Trump and the nation.
In response to inquiries about her candidacy for RNC co-chair, Lara Trump underscored her extensive involvement with the RNC during the Trump campaign from 2016 to 2020. While acknowledging the continuous learning process, she highlighted her campaign experience as a valuable asset.
The endorsement of Michael Whatley as the next head of the Republican National Committee, backed by former President Trump, aligns with reports suggesting RNC chair Ronna McDaniel may step down following the South Carolina GOP primary. Whatley, chairman of the North Carolina Republican Party, brings a background steeped in the Trump-Pence campaign and transition team.
Lara Trump, married to Eric Trump, has been an active participant in her father-in-law’s presidential campaigns and has made appearances as an on-air contributor on Fox News. She has pledged that if elected as RNC co-chair, every resource would be directed towards electing Donald Trump as president and supporting other Republican candidates.
Addressing queries regarding potential RNC assistance with Trump’s legal expenses, Lara Trump indicated she was not formally affiliated with the RNC and would need to revert with an answer. She expressed confidence that Trump’s legal bills had already been covered, citing the GoFundMe page initiated by his supporters. Campaign finance records reveal President Joe Biden’s re-election campaign outpacing Trump’s, with Trump’s primary super PAC, MAGA Inc., spending more than it raised in the latter half of 2023.
