Denver Nuggets center and three-time NBA Most Valuable Player, Nikola Jokić, stole the spotlight as the headliner for the All-NBA Team announced on Wednesday night.
Here's the scoop on how the All-NBA Team is selected: A panel of 99 reporters and broadcasters who cover the NBA chose the 15-player squad. This year, they mixed things up with positionless selections, and every player had to play at least 65 games to be eligible for postseason awards. Before this change, the league had picked three All-NBA teams by position since 1989—two guards, two forwards, and one center.
All-NBA First Team:
- G Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Oklahoma City Thunder
- C Nikola Jokić, Denver Nuggets
- G Luka Dončić, Dallas Mavericks
- F Giannis Antetokounmpo, Milwaukee Bucks
- G Jayson Tatum, Boston Celtics
Jokić, who snagged his third MVP this season, averaged 26.4 points, 12.4 rebounds, and nine assists. Even though the Nuggets were knocked out in the second round by the Minnesota Timberwolves, Jokić and Gilgeous-Alexander were unanimous first-team picks. All but Jokić were first-team selections last year.
All-NBA Second Team:
- G Jalen Brunson, New York Knicks
- G Anthony Edwards, Minnesota Timberwolves
- F Kevin Durant, Phoenix Suns
- F Kawhi Leonard, Los Angeles Clippers
- C Anthony Davis, Los Angeles Lakers
All-NBA Third Team:
- F LeBron James, Los Angeles Lakers
- G Stephen Curry, Golden State Warriors
- C Domantas Sabonis, Sacramento Kings
- G Tyrese Haliburton, Indiana Pacers
- G Devin Booker, Phoenix Suns
LeBron James, at 39, made his 20th All-NBA team! Out of those, he’s been on the first team 13 times, the second team three times, and now four times on the third team.
Notable Snubs:
Boston Celtics All-Star Jaylen Brown is probably the most surprising omission from this year's teams, being the top runner-up with 50 third-place votes. Other players who received votes but didn't make the cut include Paul George, Tyrese Maxey, Rudy Gobert, Victor Wembanyama, Zion Williamson, Paolo Banchero, De'Aaron Fox, Bam Adebayo, and DeMar DeRozan.
Philadelphia's Joel Embiid, last year's MVP and first-team All-NBA player, and Cleveland's Donovan Mitchell were not eligible this year because they didn't meet the games played threshold.
