Unsurprisingly, two big men who could be rivals for a decade headline the 2024 All-Rookie Teams. San Antonio's Victor Wembanyama and Oklahoma City's Chet Holmgren were the top two vote-getters for Rookie of the Year. It's no shock that they are also the only two unanimous First Team choices on the NBA's All-Rookie Teams. Here’s the full list based on a vote by select media members:
All-Rookie First Team
- Victor Wembanyama (San Antonio Spurs)
- Chet Holmgren (Oklahoma City Thunder)
- Brandon Miller (Charlotte Hornets)
- Jaime Jaquez Jr. (Miami Heat)
- Brandin Podziemski (Golden State Warriors)
All-Rookie Second Team
- Dereck Lively II (Dallas Mavericks)
- Amen Thompson (Houston Rockets)
- Keyonte George (Utah Jazz)
- Cason Wallace (Oklahoma City Thunder)
- GG Jackson II (Memphis Grizzlies)
A few thoughts on the team:
-
The Snub: The Warriors' Trayce Jackson-Davis has a legitimate snub complaint. He was starting for the team by the end of the season but ended up just one vote behind Jackson for the final spot on the second team. Also in the running were Ausar Thompson of the Pistons and Scoot Henderson of the Trail Blazers.
-
Lively’s Rollercoaster Season: Early in the season, Mavericks’ Dereck Lively II seemed destined for a spot on the first team, especially after his strong performances in the playoff series against the Thunder. However, after the All-Star break, his role shrank when Dallas traded for Daniel Gafford. Meanwhile, Podziemski's role with the Warriors kept growing, earning him a spot on the first team.
-
Scoot Henderson’s Struggles: Before the season started, it seemed unimaginable that No. 3 pick Scoot Henderson would miss out on these teams. However, he struggled for much of the season and faded in what turned out to be a deep rookie class. Though his play improved toward the end of the season, it wasn't enough to sway voters.
The voting results, coming from a pool of 99 select media members, highlight the depth and talent in this year's rookie class.
