Alex Bregman, the Houston Astros' third baseman, recently made some exciting changes both to his swing and his look by starting to wear a headband. This small but noticeable addition has quickly become a trend in the Astros' clubhouse.
Here are some highlights:
-
Team Trendsetter: Bregman’s headband isn't just a personal fashion statement. Known for his leadership, it's no surprise that this new accessory started catching on with his teammates. The Astros are riding a four-game winning streak, with the last three victories coming against the Oakland A's. Ahead of Thursday’s game, players like Mauricio Dubón, Jake Meyers, Trey Cabbage, Joey Loperfido, and Grae Kessinger were all spotted sporting headbands during an early batting practice session.
-
Manager's Support: Astros manager Joe Espada has noticed the headband craze, even if he’s not joining in due to a lack of hair. "Everybody got one in their locker today. Not me, I don't have any hair. Breggy called Marucci and you know everyone had two in their locker. I mean, hey, whatever it takes. I'm all for it," Espada commented, embracing the team's new trend.
-
Hot Streak: Bregman is on fire! In the past three games against the A's, he’s been batting .500 with a 1.600 slugging percentage. He’s hit three home runs, two doubles, and racked up six RBIs, setting a high bar for his performance.

Support from Marucci: Justin Cryer, a director of sales at Marucci Sports, mentioned that the company made seven styles of the headband, one of which was sent to Bregman. "We sent some to him and the first day he wore them was Monday," Cryer shared. "Then, he texted me Tuesday night that he wanted more, so we sent some the next day. Last night, he texted to send more for the team, and we sent like 30."
-
Team Standings: Currently, the Astros are 5 1/2 games behind first place in the American League West with an 18-25 record. The A's hold third place at 19-26, while the Mariners lead the division at 24-20. The Astros are 3-0 in a 10-game home stand and are set to face the Milwaukee Brewers and Los Angeles Angels next.

Superstitions in Baseball: Espada isn’t against the headband trend, especially if it keeps the wins coming. "I've seen some strange things that players do once they get going—and once they get going, they stick to it," Espada said. "I want to keep those things because it's nice seeing a change of pace. In baseball, once you start getting positive results, we'll stick with that because it's a tough game and you go through ups and downs. You find something that feels good and you keep doing it."
If the Astros continue their winning streak, expect to see those headbands sticking around!
