During the final day of the 2024 NFL draft, the Denver Broncos added depth to their defensive line by snagging John Franklin-Myers from the New York Jets in a trade. The Broncos managed to get Franklin-Myers at a bargain, trading just a 2026 sixth-round pick to New York. This move had been in the works leading up to the draft, as confirmed by general manager George Paton, who praised Franklin-Myers' durability and performance. Franklin-Myers, a 6-foot-4, 288-pound defensive lineman, had an impressive streak of not missing a game for three consecutive years and racking up 54-plus pressures for four straight years.
Franklin-Myers started his NFL journey with the Los Angeles Rams before joining the Jets in 2020. He became a starter in 2021 and didn't miss a beat, starting 50 consecutive games for New York before heading to Denver. Broncos coach Sean Payton sees Franklin-Myers as a versatile player who can line up as a "4i or tackle," indicating his ability to play on the inside shoulder of an offensive tackle. In Denver's base 3-4 defense, Franklin-Myers will slot in as a defensive end.
In his time with the Jets, Franklin-Myers showcased his skills with 48 quarterback hits, 16 tackles behind the line of scrimmage, and 14.5 sacks over three seasons. Joining the Broncos' defensive line alongside players like Zach Allen, D.J Jones, and Malcolm Roach, Franklin-Myers adds significant firepower. Getting a starting-caliber defensive end like Franklin-Myers for a future sixth-round pick could turn out to be a steal for the Broncos.
