Caleb Wilson Is Climbing Fast Ahead of the 2026 NBA Draft
As the June 2026 NBA Draft gets closer, one name keeps gaining serious momentum — Caleb Wilson. The North Carolina freshman has quickly become one of the hottest prospects in the country, and there’s now real buzz that he could be picked as high as No. 1 overall.
A few months ago, many scouts believed Darryn Peterson was the clear favorite to lead the draft class. But after dealing with multiple health issues and missed games, the race at the top suddenly opened up. That shift gave Wilson the perfect opportunity to rise — and he took full advantage of it.
Even though Wilson missed nine games because of hand injuries, including one that ended his season early, he still delivered an impressive freshman campaign at North Carolina.
Wilson’s Freshman Numbers Were Hard to Ignore

At 6-foot-9 and 216 pounds, Wilson showed flashes of being a complete modern NBA forward. His athleticism, defensive versatility, and ability to create shots have made him one of the most exciting players in the entire 2026 class.
One area scouts still mention is his outside shooting after he hit just 25.9% from three-point range. Still, many believe that part of his game can improve quickly because of his work ethic and willingness to adapt.
Recently, Yahoo Sports draft analyst Kevin O’Connor projected Wilson to go No. 2 overall to the Atlanta Hawks in a mock draft. That fit would make plenty of sense, especially since Wilson is originally from Atlanta. If that happens on draft night, it would create a pretty incredible hometown storyline.
What makes Wilson’s rise even more impressive is how loaded this draft class looks. Many analysts believe the top 12 to 15 picks could all be freshmen, making the 2026 group one of the deepest in recent memory. Still, Wilson has managed to separate himself and enter the conversation as one of the elite prospects at the very top.
At this point, it feels difficult to imagine him falling outside the top three. And if things continue trending upward, hearing his name called first in June might not surprise anyone anymore.
