Colts' 2024 NFL Draft Steal: Adonai Mitchell Adds Dynamic Playmaking to Offense

After the 2024 NFL draft wrapped up, PFF sifted through all three days and singled out the biggest draft steals. One standout pick from Day 2 was the Colts snagging Adonai Mitchell, a talented wide receiver from Texas.

To identify these "steals," PFF compared where each prospect was chosen in the draft to where they ranked on PFF's big board.

The Colts' selection of Mitchell at No. 52 caught PFF's eye. Initially projected to go late in the first round, Mitchell slipped a bit, making him a prime steal for the Colts. Known for his smooth moves and strong hands, Mitchell is poised to be a key player alongside Michael Pittman Jr., forming a dynamic receiving duo for quarterback Anthony Richardson to develop with.

In my own review, I took a similar approach to PFF, analyzing which Colts' picks delivered the most bang for the buck. Comparing where a player was selected to the consensus big board ranking, Mitchell, ranked 29th, stood out as the biggest value at +23, showcasing the smart drafting by the Colts.

Mitchell brings a much-needed big-play capability to the Colts' offense. While his 4.34 speed makes him a deep threat, his prowess as a route runner allows him to impact the game across all three levels of the field, making him a versatile asset.

According to Colts' area scout Anthony Coughlan, Mitchell's versatility was a major draw. At 205 pounds with a 4.38 speed, Mitchell is not just a deep threat but also excels at intermediate routes, adding multiple dimensions to the Colts' offense.

With the right development, Mitchell has the potential to become the Colts' go-to receiver. His presence not only benefits him but also opens up opportunities for his teammates.

PFF's list of Day 2 steals included other talents like Jer'Zhan Newton, Cooper DeJean, Jackson Powers-Johnson, and Roman Wilson, showcasing the depth and potential impact of these mid-draft selections.
