New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones is on the road to recovery and feeling much better after tearing his ACL last season.
Key Highlights:
- Jones reported, "Knee feels good. Really good. Every week I've continued to feel better and better and taking steps. Doing a lot of the same things I've been doing, but doing them better and feeling sharper, cleaner with a lot of my cuts."
- He's working on regaining his explosiveness and improving his change of direction and cutting from even before the injury.
Jones and the Giants had a rough time last year, starting with a 1-4 record under his leadership heading into Week 8 against the Las Vegas Raiders. Things took a turn for the worse when the Giants got blown out by the Raiders, and Jones tore his right ACL. However, Jones believes his rehab is progressing well, and he's optimistic about his recovery.
The Giants will need Jones to return to his 2022 form if they want any shot at winning the division this season. Back then, he achieved career highs in wins (9), passing yards (3,205), rushing yards (708), and rushing touchdowns (7), while also recording career lows in interceptions (5) and interception percentage (1.1 percent, which led the league).
There's been a lot of buzz about the Giants potentially moving on from Jones and his hefty contract next offseason, as the team has an out in 2025. To change that narrative, Jones needs to start putting points on the board, protecting the ball, and leading the team to victories – a challenge that has historically plagued Giants quarterbacks.
The consensus is that Drew Lock is not the answer, so the Giants are counting on Jones to bounce back. If he can replicate his 2022 performance, the team might just have a fighting chance this season.
