The Denver Broncos are bringing in linebacker Andre Smith on a one-year deal, as first reported by Jordan Schultz of Fox Sports on Thursday. The team has since confirmed the signing.

Smith, a 27-year-old linebacker, stands 6 feet tall and weighs in at 240 pounds. He entered the NFL in 2018 as a seventh-round pick from North Carolina, initially joining the Carolina Panthers. Over the past few years, he has also spent time with the Buffalo Bills, Tennessee Titans, and Atlanta Falcons.

In his career, Smith has suited up for 62 games, including 11 with the Falcons last season. He's logged 52 career tackles and an impressive 1,131 snaps on special teams. This summer, he’s expected to compete for a backup linebacker spot and contribute significantly on special teams.

Just this past week, Smith was one of seven players trying out at the Broncos' mandatory minicamp. The group included:

  • TE Feleipe Franks
  • TE Hunter Kampmoyer
  • WR Ra’shaun Henry
  • DB Kyler McMichael
  • DL Blaine Hoover
  • LB Jordan Kunaszyk

To make room for Smith on their 90-man offseason roster, the Broncos waived tight end Dylan Leonard, reaching an injury settlement with him.

This new addition brings excitement to the Broncos' roster, adding depth and experience, especially on special teams, where Smith has proven to be a reliable player.
