After trading away Jerry Jeudy, the Denver Broncos quickly moved to fill the gap by signing Josh Reynolds in free agency. With this addition, the Broncos now boast decent depth at the wide receiver position, but they're not stopping there – they're still on the lookout for more talent to bolster their ranks.
In a strategic move, the Broncos sent their wide receivers coach, Keary Colbert, to scout talent at Western Kentucky's pro day. At the pro day, all eyes were on Malachi Corley, a standout receiver. Despite not participating in drills at the NFL combine, Corley impressed scouts with his speed, clocking in at a blazing mid-4.4 range in the 40-yard dash.
Corley's rise to prominence began in 2022 when he had a stellar sophomore season, racking up impressive stats with 101 catches for 1,295 yards and 11 touchdowns in just 14 games. Even in his final college season last fall, Corley continued to shine, finishing with 79 receptions for 984 yards and 11 scores.
Comparisons have been drawn between Corley and Deebo Samuel, a second-round pick in the 2019 NFL draft. NFL.com's Lance Zierlein sees Corley as a similar talent and projects him to be a second-round pick in this year's draft.
Despite not currently holding a second-round pick due to previous trades, the Broncos have the flexibility to acquire more picks through additional trades. The 2024 NFL draft is set to take place in Detroit from April 25-27, and the Broncos are poised to make some strategic moves to further strengthen their roster.
