England vs. Slovakia Euro 2024: Clash with Glastonbury Festival Performances

Written by Published

England is gearing up to face Slovakia this Sunday, June 30th, in the Round of 16 of the Euro 2024 games happening in Germany. This match-up, taking place at the Veltins Arena in Gelsenkirchen, might leave football fans at Glastonbury Festival feeling torn. The game kicks off at 5 pm BST and is the only venue where England has snagged a win in the tournament so far.

Catch the action live on ITV1, with coverage starting around 3:30 pm. For those on the go, the match will also be streamed live on the ITVX platform and app. England’s lineup for the game includes Pickford, Walker, Guehi, Stones, Trippier, Rice, Mainoo, Saka, Bellingham, Foden, and Kane. On the other side, Slovakia will field Dubravka, Pekarik, Vavro, Skriniar, Hancko, Kucka, Lobotka, Duda, Schranz, Bozenik, and Haraslin.

Glastonbury Festival is in full swing over in Somerset, showcasing a star-studded lineup with performances by Dua Lipa, Coldplay, and SZA at the five-day extravaganza at Worthy Farm. However, football fans at the festival might be in for a bit of a letdown.

Back in May, Glastonbury organizers announced they wouldn’t be screening any of England or Scotland’s men’s team matches from the European Football Championships. A statement on the festival's website explained, “In previous years, we’ve shown notable matches on big screens where possible, particularly on days before the main stages have opened. However, with England and Scotland’s Last 16 matches potentially clashing with headline sets this year, we’ve decided not to show these matches at the Festival, similar to what we did in 2014 and 2016.”

Organizers further elaborated, “We won’t know until the week of the Festival whether England or Scotland will actually play during the Festival. But as we’ve been asked about our plans, we wanted to let everyone know in advance that we won’t be screening the potential matches.” They wished Southgate’s squad “all the best in Germany” and hoped everyone could catch the Quarter Final matches after the Festival ends.

So, if you’re at Glastonbury and eager to catch the game, you might need to find a good 4G spot at Worthy Farm or consider leaving the festival early. This decision means missing out on major performances like Shania Twain in the Legends Slot on the Pyramid stage, Janelle Monae, Burna Boy, and headliner SZA.

For many fans, this creates a bit of a dilemma. Do you stay and soak up the unique Glastonbury vibe with its iconic performances, or do you break away to support the Three Lions in a crucial Euro 2024 match? It’s a tough call, especially with such a favorable draw for Gareth Southgate’s side, despite their lackluster performance in the initial stages of the competition.

Exciting times lie ahead for both festival-goers and football fans. Whether you’re humming along to your favorite tunes at Glastonbury or glued to the screen for the big match, there’s plenty to look forward to this Sunday.
