Fantasy vs. Reality: The Josh Allen Saga and the New York Giants

Written by Published

The Buffalo Bills have been making some changes to their roster lately, especially around their star quarterback, Josh Allen. There's been a buzz on the airwaves, with a New York radio host suggesting that the New York Giants should consider inquiring about Allen's availability.

Evan Roberts of WFAN thinks that Giants GM Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll, who both have ties to Buffalo, should at least touch base with the Bills regarding Allen. Roberts claims that Allen might want out of Buffalo for a bigger market to please his girlfriend, actress/singer Hailee Steinfeld.

"Josh doesn't have any toys anymore. Josh ain't happy," Roberts said. "Josh doesn't want to live in Buffalo anymore. Josh has a girlfriend who would rather shop on Fifth Avenue in New York City than waste time in that toilet bowl known as Buffalo."

Roberts suggests that Schoen should call up his old colleagues in Buffalo and inquire about Allen. He thinks the Giants could offer their sixth pick in the draft, along with Daniel Jones and other assets, to help Buffalo rebuild and secure Allen's services.

But, there are plenty of reasons why this idea might not fly. For starters, acquiring Allen would come at a steep cost for the Giants. The Bills would likely demand a hefty trade package in return. Plus, the notion that Allen wants out of Buffalo is disputed by Ralph Ventre of Bills Central, who calls it "complete fiction."

Allen has shown nothing but love for Buffalo and its fans since he was drafted. Additionally, it would be highly unusual for any GM to trade away a talented quarterback like Allen, especially one who is under contract for less than $50 million per year.

Ventre also points out that the Bills' recent roster moves, such as trading away All-Pro wide receiver Stefon Diggs, are simply part of the normal personnel changes teams go through. Buffalo is not in a rebuilding phase but rather focusing on maintaining salary cap flexibility for the future.

The Bills are returning a solid core of starters on both offense and defense, and they remain a strong contender in the AFC East. Talk of Allen leaving for the Giants is likely just speculation, especially considering the Bills are in the process of building a new stadium set to open in 2026.

In the end, any chatter about Allen to the Giants is probably just a way to generate buzz and fill airtime leading up to the NFL draft. Allen is most likely staying put in Buffalo, where he's become a franchise cornerstone.
