The Giants are making moves in their pitching lineup with Alex Cobb facing another setback in his recovery. They've just traded for Mitch White from the Blue Jays and moved Cobb to the 60-day injured list. White, a 29-year-old pitcher, brings both bullpen support and rotation depth, having played 62 games with a 4.99 ERA for the Blue Jays and Dodgers. He got the call after Toronto activated two pitchers from the IL, leading to his designation for assignment.
Cobb, who's 36, won't be back in action until at least May 27, with his recovery from hip surgery hitting a snag due to issues in his throwing arm. Initially progressing well, he hit a roadblock with shoulder tightness after recovering from a flexor strain in his elbow. Hopes of an early May return have been dashed, and he's looking at an extended delay.
White, a standout from Bellarmine Prep and Santa Clara University, was drafted 65th overall in 2016 and is now set to bolster the Giants' pitching staff.
