The Eagles have locked in left tackle Jordan Mailata with a hefty contract extension, making him one of the highest-paid offensive linemen in the NFL. ESPN was first to break the news about the deal, which will keep Mailata in Philadelphia through 2028.
This new agreement adds another three seasons and a whopping $66 million to Mailata's previous extension from 2021. It also includes $48 million guaranteed and a hefty $20 million signing bonus. With this extension, Mailata's annual earnings jump to around $22 million, a significant increase from the $16 million he was making on his prior contract. This puts him as the fourth highest-paid tackle in the NFL, just behind Laremy Tunsil, Andrew Thomas, and Trent Williams in terms of average annual value.
Mailata's extension solidifies the left side of the Eagles' offensive line for the long haul. This move comes after the team secured Landon Dickerson with a four-year, $84 million contract extension just before the start of free agency. Dickerson, a 25-year-old Pro Bowler, now holds the title of the highest-paid guard in the NFL in terms of average annual value. Standing at 6-foot-6, 336 pounds, Dickerson and the gargantuan Mailata (6-8, 365) form one of the most intimidating offensive-line duos in the league.
In 2018, the Eagles drafted Mailata, a former Australian rugby player with no prior football experience, in the seventh round. Eagles offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland was so impressed by Mailata's athleticism during a private workout that he urged general manager Howie Roseman to trade up 17 spots to secure him. After two seasons of development under Stoutland, Mailata made his debut in 2020, starting 10 games at left and right tackle. He then won the starting left tackle job in a training-camp battle with Andre Dillard in 2021, succeeding franchise legend Jason Peters.
Mailata has been a pillar of strength for the Eagles, starting 33 of 34 regular-season games over the past two years. His pass-blocking has been particularly impressive, allowing just three sacks last season on 687 pass-blocking snaps, a top-10 performance among offensive tackles who played significant snaps, according to Pro Football Focus.
