Marte Shines, But Diamondbacks Fall to Padres in 10-3 Loss

The Diamondbacks faced a tough night at Petco Park, falling to the Padres 10-3 despite Ketel Marte's efforts. Marte smashed a two-run homer and had two hits, marking his second multi-hit game in a row and the fourth in the past six games. His homer came off Padres lefty Wandy Peralta in the seventh inning, cutting the Padres' lead to 5-3.

The Diamondbacks added right-hander Thyago Vieira to their roster on Friday, sending lefty Joe Jacques to Triple-A Reno. Vieira, claimed off waivers, brings a fastball averaging 97 mph and a slider that generates swings and misses. Jacques was with the team for less than a day and didn't get a chance to play before being optioned.

In the bottom of the eighth, the Padres broke the game wide open with five runs off Humberto Castellanos, who was in his third inning of work. The Diamondbacks stuck with him due to their bullpen being stretched thin from recent heavy use.

Lourdes Gurriel Jr. also hit a pinch-hit solo shot following Marte's homer, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Padres' powerful offense.
