In 2017, when the Rams brought in Sean McVay, the youngest head coach in the league at just 30 years old, many folks raised their eyebrows. But boy, did he shut down the naysayers real quick! The Rams snagged 11 wins in his first year, and bam, next thing you know, they’re strutting into the Super Bowl in his second season. McVay’s been on a rocket ride since then, except for a little hiccup in 2022 when they had a rough 5-12 stretch because key players like Matthew Stafford, Cooper Kupp, and Aaron Donald were sidelined for a good chunk of the season.
Fast forward to 2024, and McVay's entering his eighth season as head honcho. Now, he’s pretty much the darling of the NFL coaching scene. Jarrett Bailey over at Touchdown Wire is singing his praises, ranking him second best in the business.
Last season, McVay switched gears with his offense, turning the Rams into a smash-mouth, run-you-over kinda team, sprinkled with a dash of play action. With Matthew Stafford still slinging the pigskin and the dynamic duo of Puka Nacua and Cooper Kupp making waves, it's gonna be a blast watching what they cook up this time around. McVay’s already got a Super Bowl ring under his belt. Can lightning strike twice?
Now, about that ranking. Guess who’s sitting pretty at number one? None other than Andy Reid, the mastermind behind the Kansas City Chiefs’ double Super Bowl victories in the last couple of years. It’s no surprise, really. Reid’s been a coaching titan, even before Patrick Mahomes came into the picture.
Most NFL pundits would hand Reid the crown without a second thought, considering how he’s transformed the Chiefs into a powerhouse. He’s practically a shoe-in for the Hall of Fame. But hey, if McVay keeps up his wizardry, he might just be joining Reid in Canton when all's said and done.
