The Los Angeles Rams have been making some serious waves this offseason, primarily focusing on bolstering their offensive firepower. The 2025 NFL Draft presents a golden opportunity to address some of these weaknesses, but not everyone is convinced that the Rams will take that route.
According to CBS Sports' Michael Renner, the Rams should go all-in on offense yet again. In his latest mock draft, Renner predicts that Los Angeles will select Ohio State wide receiver Emeka Egbuka with the No. 26 overall pick. Pairing Egbuka with Davante Adams and emerging star Puka Nacua would give the Rams a receiving trio that could rival any in the league.
Why Emeka Egbuka?
Egbuka isn’t just another wide receiver prospect—he’s one of the best in the 2025 draft class. His college resume speaks for itself. Playing for the College Football Playoff champion Ohio State Buckeyes, he racked up 1,011 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns on 81 catches in his final season. Over his collegiate career, he totaled an impressive 205 receptions for 2,868 yards and 24 touchdowns in 49 games. At 6-foot-1 and 203 pounds, he has the size, speed, and skill set to make an immediate impact at the professional level.
Beyond just his stats, Egbuka hails from an elite lineage of Ohio State receivers who have seamlessly transitioned to the NFL. Names like Terry McLaurin, Garrett Wilson, Chris Olave, Jaxon Smith-Njigba, and Marvin Harrison Jr. all paved the way, proving that OSU continues to be a factory for top-tier pass-catchers. If history is any indication, Egbuka could be the next breakout star in the league.
The Rams’ Receiving Corps: Best in the NFL?
Adding Egbuka to a group already featuring Adams and Nacua would give the Rams arguably the most lethal receiving corps in the entire NFL. Adams remains one of the most dominant wideouts in the league, known for his precise route-running and elite hands. Nacua, who turned heads in his rookie season, is a dynamic playmaker capable of stretching the field. Throw Egbuka into the mix, and you’re looking at a group that could give defensive coordinators nightmares on a weekly basis.
But What About the Defense?
While drafting Egbuka would undoubtedly be a blockbuster move for the offense, it raises an important question: Are the Rams neglecting their biggest weaknesses? The defensive side of the ball has some glaring holes, particularly at cornerback and linebacker. Right now, those positions remain dangerously thin, and unless the front office has plans to bring in starting-caliber talent via free agency or trades, passing on a defensive player in the first round could be seen as a luxury rather than a necessity.
That said, the Rams have never been a team to shy away from aggressive moves. Head coach Sean McVay and general manager Les Snead have built a reputation for taking bold swings to keep the team competitive.
