The Rams wrapped up their offseason workouts on Tuesday at Cal Lutheran in Thousand Oaks, marking the end of an era before their move to Woodland Hills. This change follows their long stint at Cal Lutheran since 2016. Coach Sean McVay, in a recent ESPN appearance, joked about his office feeling like a prison cell without a window, but he admitted he'll miss the privacy of Cal Lu.
“When I first got here, you thought it would be a temporary facility and here we are going into Year 8 and it's been great. I love the privacy out here,” he said. “The only downside is really when it gets windy. The facility, I think it's great. You're in close quarters to people. That stuff doesn't bother me. As long as the film works, as long as the players have enough space in the locker room and the weight room. My office… I'm more worried about the film."
The Rams are looking forward to leaving behind the windy conditions that often disrupted their practices in Thousand Oaks. The move to Woodland Hills will provide a new, albeit temporary setup until a more permanent facility is ready.
The team plans to settle into their new practice digs after training camp at Loyola Marymount, marking the start of a new chapter for the Rams. The hope is that the transition will also bring improved practice conditions, especially for positions like quarterbacks and kickers who struggle in windy environments.
"We'll probably just pick this facility up and go plant it at Woodland Hills and then we'll see when the real thing is ready, eventually,” McVay commented on the move.
Looking ahead, the Rams aim to establish a more stable practice environment akin to their home games at SoFi Stadium, possibly with an indoor facility down the line. For now, though, they’re focused on the excitement of a fresh start in Woodland Hills and gearing up for the challenges of the upcoming season.
