Paul Skenes is fresh off his second MLB win, where he shined in a six-inning performance against the Detroit Tigers on May 29th. He only allowed two runs, leading the Pittsburgh Pirates to a commanding 10-2 victory. But Wednesday night brought a whole new challenge as the Pirates faced off against Shohei Ohtani and his squad at PNC Park.

The game started off strong for Skenes. In the first inning, he struck out Mookie Betts with a dazzling combination of 100+ mph fastballs and a wicked slider. The crowd was on their feet, and the excitement was palpable as Skenes prepared to face Ohtani for the first time.

Advantage, Skenes.

Ohtani stepped up to the plate, and Skenes didn't waste any time. He delivered three consecutive 100+ mph fastballs, and Ohtani swung and missed on all three. It was a quick and decisive win for Skenes in this first showdown. The energy in the stadium was electric.

However, things changed the next time Ohtani came to bat in the top of the third inning. With a runner on first and two outs, Ohtani was ready for a battle. He worked the count full, and on a 2-2 pitch, he let a 100 mph fastball on the inside corner go by for ball three. Skenes went back to his bread and butter, firing a 101 mph fastball high and inside.

Somehow, Ohtani turned on it. To get his hands around and launch that fastball to dead center? Just incredible.

The moment was a testament to Ohtani's talent and showcased why he’s a two-time American League MVP. It was a thrilling exchange that left fans buzzing.

And speaking of excitement, wouldn’t it be amazing to see these two face off again at this year’s All-Star Game?
