Steelers Shake-Up: Bud Dupree's Twist and Defensive Revamp Ahead

Written by Published

Man, Bud Dupree had Steelers fans on the edge of their seats with rumors he might make a comeback, but guess what? He took a different route and decided to throw in with one of our conference rivals. Talk about a twist!

According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, the L.A. Chargers were cooking up some serious plans, pitching a trio of top-notch rushers featuring Khalil Mack and Joey Bosa. Now that's a lineup to get hyped about!

Dupree had Steelers Nation buzzing with his sack stats during his last couple of years in Pittsburgh, racking up an impressive 19.5. But then he went for the big bucks in free agency, scoring a major deal with the Tennessee Titans. Unfortunately, injuries slowed him down, and he only managed to snag seven sacks over two seasons.

Fast forward to 2023, and Dupree suited up for the Atlanta Falcons, putting in work for a full 16 games and bagging 6.5 sacks. That's some serious hustle!

Sure, having Dupree back in black and gold would've been sweet, but hey, we're not sweating it. Markus Golden, a solid player in his own right, is still up for grabs in free agency. Last season, he was in on all 16 games, coming through with four sacks, a fumble recovery, and 20 tackles. Now that's the kind of backup we can rely on.

But let's be real, with Dupree off the table, the Steelers gotta think about beefing up their bench. We've got T.J. Watt, Alex Highsmith, and Nick Herbig holding it down, but a little extra depth never hurt nobody. Time to scout some fresh talent to keep our defense locked and loaded!
