The Golden State Warriors have a legacy that stretches back over 75 years, with more than 600 players donning their jerseys and over 60 different numbers making an appearance on the court. That’s a lot of history, a lot of talent, and plenty of stories worth telling.
A Storied Franchise with a Rich Legacy
Founded in 1946, back when professional basketball was still in its infancy under the Basketball Association of America (BAA)—a league that eventually merged with the National Basketball Association (NBA)—the Warriors have journeyed through multiple cities. From their early days in Philadelphia to their transition to the West Coast, they’ve called San Francisco, Oakland, and even briefly, San Diego, home. Each city left its mark on the franchise, contributing to the powerhouse team it is today.
To honor the countless players who have suited up in the Warriors’ colors, Warriors Wire is taking a deep dive into the history of jersey numbers worn throughout the franchise’s existence. In this installment, we’re zooming in on one particular number and one particular player—the 20th of 28 players to wear the No. 7 jersey for Golden State.
Dan Langhi’s Brief Stint in Golden State
One of the lesser-known names in Warriors history, but still a part of the fabric of the team, is Dan Langhi. A forward out of Vanderbilt, Langhi made a name for himself in college before making the jump to the NBA. He was selected as the 31st overall pick in the 2000 NBA Draft by the Dallas Mavericks. However, his journey took an immediate detour on draft night when he was traded to the Houston Rockets.
A Career That Took Him Across Multiple Teams
Born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, Langhi started his professional career with the Rockets, where he played his first two seasons. After that, he made a pit stop with the Phoenix Suns before landing with the Golden State Warriors in 2003. Unfortunately, his time in the Bay Area was short-lived—spanning just four games before he was waived by the team.
While his tenure with the Warriors was brief, Langhi exclusively sported the No. 7 jersey during his stint. He averaged 1.5 points per game in limited action before moving on. Though his time with the team was fleeting, he remains a part of the long and storied history of the Warriors franchise.
The Legacy of Jersey No. 7
The No. 7 jersey has been worn by 28 different Warriors players throughout the years, each leaving their own small mark on the franchise. While Langhi’s time was short, his journey is still a testament to the unpredictable nature of an NBA career. Not every player gets the limelight, but every player contributes to the larger tapestry that makes the Golden State Warriors one of the most celebrated teams in basketball history.
From championship-winning superstars to role players who had short-lived moments on the court, every player wearing the Warriors’ jersey plays a role in shaping the team's identity. And as we continue our exploration of jersey numbers, we’ll uncover more stories—some of legendary players and some of unsung heroes like Dan Langhi.
Stay tuned as we take a deep dive into the rich history of Warriors basketball, one jersey number at a time!
