Signing Calvin Ridley was a whirlwind for the Tennessee Titans, happening so fast that owner Amy Adams Strunk learned about it from the media before general manager Ran Carthon could break the news to her. Carthon had been keeping Adams Strunk updated on the team's pursuit of Ridley, but the signing leaked before he could make it official.
"The way things move now, deals get done and word gets out," Carthon explained. "We were in the office, celebrating with Chad, Brian, and Nick, high-fiving and all, and we thought, 'Let's get Calvin on the phone and congratulate him.' So, in a matter of 90 seconds, we're on FaceTime with Calvin, sharing the good news, when suddenly I get a message from Mrs. Amy. I answer, and she's like, 'Is this true?' I'm caught off guard and ask, 'Is what true?' And she goes, 'Did we just get Calvin Ridley?' I'm like, how did she find out? We're literally on the phone with him right now, celebrating the deal!"
Initially, signing Ridley seemed like a far-off dream for the Titans. However, once the team missed out on re-signing Denico Autry and Azeez Al-Shaair, the opportunity to bring Ridley on board became a reality.
