Tyler Guyton’s got skills that go beyond just being a standout rookie. He’s got a knack for spelling, he’s got a voice that can rock a crowd, and, most importantly, he’s got a fierce drive to get back on the field. After missing three practices due to illness, Guyton finally made his return on Tuesday, although he was only out there working on his conditioning for now.
“Yeah, I’m feeling a little better, for sure,” Guyton shared, a bit under the weather but definitely on the mend. He’s been dealing with some health hiccups, but the plan is for him to be fully back in action for the joint practice against the LA Rams and this weekend’s game. “We’ll see what they say,” he added, keeping things in perspective as he awaits clearance.
Tyler Guyton’s absence didn’t go unnoticed. During his time off, coaches and teammates had plenty to say about him. Quarterback Dak Prescott was particularly impressed with Guyton’s surprising talent on the popular game show Jeopardy. Guyton made headlines when he quickly spelled “hippopotamus” in a lightning-fast round of the show.
“For some reason, I got selected to spell a word,” Guyton recalled. “I felt like it was very disrespectful so I spelled it fast. Who doesn’t know how to spell hippopotamus? That’s crazy.” Guyton’s quick thinking and spelling skills were just the tip of the iceberg.
And then there was the rookie initiation. Each rookie was asked to showcase their talents, and Guyton stole the show with his rendition of Rick James’ classic, “Mary Jane.” Head coach Mike McCarthy couldn’t help but sing praises about Guyton’s performance. “Tyler Guyton came out of the box firing with Rick James’ Mary Jane and just blew it out of the park,” McCarthy said. He went on to note that the rookie class this year was exceptional, especially in terms of their singing talents.
“I’d say this, the rookie class clearly is a cut above any of the classes, frankly, that I’ve ever seen, in the area of singing,” McCarthy added with a chuckle. It’s not every day you see rookies bringing their A-game to a team initiation.
Guyton’s own take on his performance? He was clearly proud. “I did my thing on that one,” he said, smiling. His confidence on stage is mirrored by his drive on the field. Before his illness hit, Guyton was making waves with his performance. “I did feel good about it,” he reflected. “I worked my ass off and I feel like it’s paying off.”
Tyler Guyton’s journey is a testament to his resilience and multi-faceted talents. From spelling competitions and singing performances to getting back into game shape, he’s shown he’s not just another rookie. As he continues to recover and get back to top form, all eyes will be on him, eager to see how he’ll contribute on the field and beyond.
