Vanderbilt Bolsters Pitching Staff with Georgetown Transfer Cody Bowker

Vanderbilt baseball snagged its first transfer of the 2024 offseason on Friday night, bringing in Georgetown right-hander Cody Bowker. This rising junior initially showcased his skills as a two-way player during his freshman year with the Hoyas but transitioned exclusively to pitching in his sophomore season.

Here's the exciting part:

  • Solid Stats: Bowker made 13 appearances with eight starts, achieving a 3.00 ERA. He struck out 59 batters while walking 20 over 48 innings.
  • Standout Performances: Against super regional team UConn, Bowker fanned 11 batters in just 4⅔ innings. He also threw seven scoreless innings against St. John’s, another NCAA tournament team, striking out 10 and walking two on May 16.
  • Recognition: He was named a second-team All-Big East selection, underscoring his talent and contributions on the mound.

Bowker's Vanderbilt connection runs deep, as he played alongside Commodores catcher Logan Poteet with the Sanford Mainers in the NECBL in 2023.

With Vanderbilt likely losing two of its top starters, Bryce Cunningham and Carter Holton, to the MLB draft, Bowker’s arrival is perfectly timed. He could potentially fill a key rotation spot with his impressive four-pitch mix or provide depth to a bullpen that leaned heavily on freshmen in 2024.
