3.8 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes San Bernardino County, California

On Thursday night, a 3.8 magnitude earthquake struck the San Bernardino County area around 11:38 p.m., according to the United States Geological Survey. The epicenter was located approximately 2 miles southeast of Ontario near the Ontario International Airport, with a depth of about 7.4 miles.

No injuries or structural damage were immediately reported. California experiences hundreds of earthquakes each year, but most are minor. However, dozens measure over 3.0 magnitude. The strongest earthquake ever recorded in California was a 7.9 magnitude quake that struck Fort Tejon on Jan. 9, 1857, according to the California Department of Conservation.
