An Indiana man has been arrested and charged with murder for the brutal stabbings of two women, according to Indianapolis police. David Hiner, 30, faces two counts of murder for the deaths of Shannon Lassere, 58, and Marianne Weis, 52. Acting Chief Chris Bailey of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department condemned the killings as "downright brutal and wicked," expressing sympathy for the victims.

Lassere was killed on January 26, followed by Weis on January 31, as confirmed by Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears. Their bodies were found just 150 yards apart on the city's far east side, both fatally stabbed. Bailey commended the bravery of the victims in fighting back against their attacker, which ultimately led to Hiner's arrest as he sustained injuries.

Surveillance footage from local businesses showed a man matching Hiner's description with one of the victims on the night of her murder. Additionally, blood found on a shoe retrieved from Hiner's apartment matched that of both victims, providing further evidence against him.

Deputy Chief Kendall Adams stated that both women died from "multiple sharp force injuries." Hiner was initially taken into custody on an unrelated probation violation before murder charges were filed. Investigators needed time for forensic testing of evidence seized during a search warrant, including clothing.

LaPorte County officials, where Hiner allegedly violated probation, were alerted by Indianapolis authorities. Lab results subsequently linked Hiner to the victims. While investigators suspect Hiner knew Weis, they are unsure of his connection to Lassere, and no weapon has been recovered yet.

Bailey emphasized that the case remains open, with much still to uncover. Hiner was incarcerated on Friday evening, with no attorney listed in online court records to represent him. The investigation into motive continues, leaving many questions unanswered.
