For Sonya Ingram, playing the lottery was always just a fun routine—never something she expected to actually pay off. That all changed in March when the Bedford resident landed a $50,000 Powerball win.
“You go through the years just playing for fun, never thinking you’ll actually win,” Ingram shared. “When I realized I had won, it was hard to believe it had really happened.”
She picked up her ticket at a local Quik Stop on 16th Street, not thinking much of it at the time. But when she checked the results, things didn’t feel real at first.
-
The lottery app told her to visit a prize office
-
She double-checked multiple times
-
Then came the phone call that changed everything
“At first, I didn’t even see the amount,” she said. “But when I called and found out, I screamed. I just couldn’t believe it!”
Now retired, Ingram says she plans to keep things simple and smart with her winnings:
-
💰 Most of the money is going straight into savings
-
🚗 A portion will help restore their 1969 Ford Torino
And she’s not alone in the Hoosier State’s lottery luck. Indiana has quite the track record—it was home to the very first Powerball jackpot winner back in 1992 and has racked up 39 jackpot wins, more than any other state.
As for the next big opportunity, the Powerball jackpot for Monday, March 16 is sitting at an estimated $88 million—just waiting for the next lucky player.
