Beverley Minster, one of the largest parish churches in the UK, has received a major boost from the National Lottery, securing nearly £245,000 to kickstart a plan for further funding aimed at restoring this historic gem. The initial grant of £244,203 will allow Beverley Minster to draw up detailed proposals to seek a much larger sum—around £4.3 million—from the lottery to tackle crucial repairs. These include restoring the east end of the building, addressing roof and masonry damage, and conserving one of its treasured medieval windows. The aim is not just preservation but also to ensure that future generations can enjoy the Minster’s beauty and historical significance.
Beyond the building itself, the ambitious Destinations Project plans to enhance the church’s surroundings, turning the area outside the Minster into a biodiverse green space. This initiative will be carried out in partnership with Bishop Burton College, blending conservation, education, and community engagement.
