Birmingham Man Hits £250,000 Scratchcard Jackpot – Plans Big Family Treats
A lucky start to 2026 turned even luckier for Anthony Brayson, a 38-year-old from Birmingham, after he scooped £250,000 on a National Lottery £250k Silver Scratchcard.
Anthony’s year had already started on a high note – landing a new job and enjoying his first proper Christmas break in years. But nothing could have prepared him for the life-changing scratchcard win.
“Everything just seemed to line up – the new job, Christmas off for the first time, and then this. I still wake up thinking it’s a dream,” Anthony said.
From Surprise to Reality
Anthony nearly didn’t believe his own luck. He scratched off the ticket and saw the top prize, but had to double-check it multiple times. “I immediately rang my mum, and when she didn’t believe me, I had to get my dad to come over to verify it,” he laughed. “I honestly thought I must have read it wrong!”
After the National Lottery confirmed the win, it finally sank in. “I just sat there thinking, ‘Has this actually just happened?’ I’d already been feeling lucky with the new job and having Christmas off, but this is on another level. It’s completely life-changing.”
Family Comes First
Since winning, Anthony has focused on celebrating with his family. He’s already treated his parents to meals and is planning more big gestures, including:
-
Paying off the rest of his mum’s mortgage
-
Taking his parents on their dream trip to California
-
Visiting a close friend in Australia
“My parents mean everything to me, and being able to treat them feels really special,” Anthony said.
Home Sweet Home Upgrades
Anthony also plans to put the winnings toward renovating his house, which he inherited from his late grandmother. Big-ticket projects like a loft conversion and kitchen upgrade are finally on the table.
“I’ve been improving the house for years, and now I can tick off the biggest expenses,” he explained.
A Winning Hotspot
Birmingham is proving to be a lucky city for lottery players. National Lottery operator Allwyn recently reminded locals that a £1 million EuroMillions Millionaire Maker prize from last August is still unclaimed.
Andy Carter, Senior Winners’ Advisor at Allwyn, said:
“Anthony’s story is a brilliant example of how a National Lottery win can come at just the right moment. After years of hard work and securing a new job he’s passionate about, this £250k prize allows him to enjoy life and support his family. It’s wonderful to see him using his win to look ahead to an exciting future.”
