The Bluffton resident stopped by a local Publix store just before closing time because she needed to grab cat food before a buy-one-get-one deal ended. While checking out, she made a spontaneous decision to pick up a couple of lottery tickets as well.
It was her first visit to the Publix at May River Crossing, and that unexpected stop ended up paying off in a huge way.
After returning home, she finally scratched her tickets and was stunned by what she saw.
One ticket was worth an incredible $1 million.
“I couldn’t believe it,” she told lottery officials after discovering the winning prize.
The winner later reflected on how close she came to missing out on the jackpot.
- She almost didn’t stop at the store.
- A longer checkout line could have changed everything.
- A simple errand turned into a million-dollar surprise.
“If someone had been in front of me in line, I might not have gotten those tickets,” she said.
Despite her newfound wealth, the lucky winner says she plans to keep living frugally and has no intention of making her win public.
“I’m not telling anyone that I won,” she shared.
The winning ticket came from the Millionaire Bonus scratch-off game, where the odds of winning the $1 million prize are 1 in 1.5 million. As of now, one more $1 million top prize remains available in the game.
The good fortune didn’t stop with the winner. The Bluffton Publix that sold the lucky ticket also received a $10,000 commission for the sale.
What started as a routine grocery run in June became a story this lucky cat owner will never forget.
