A group of six automotive coworkers from Guelph, Ontario, just turned their casual lottery tradition into a life-changing win — a cool $2 million Ontario 49 jackpot.
For years, San Do, Duc Tu, Gizel Gonzalez, Ha Viet Pham, Thanh Nguyen, and Tuyet Ly teamed up to play games like Lotto 6/49, Lotto Max, and Ontario 49. Their lucky break came in the August 30 draw.
Do was the first to discover their fortune. “At first, I thought we won $2,000,” he said. “Then I looked again — it was $2 million!”
Each of the six walked away with $333,333, but the real reward was the rush of excitement that followed. “I was shaking and couldn’t sleep,” Do recalled. “I started calling everyone right away.” Pham added, “I didn’t believe it until we checked the ticket together.”
When the realization hit, the team erupted in hugs and happy disbelief. “I once dreamed I matched six numbers and won the lottery,” Do said. “Now, that dream actually came true.”
As for how they’re spending it?
-
Ly is calling it quits early — retirement starts now.
-
Do plans to invest and save for a new car.
-
Tu is taking his wife on a long vacation.
-
Pham will pay bills and share with his son.
-

-
Gonzalez is clearing her car loan and saving for her own retirement.
Their golden ticket was bought at a Shell station on Speedvale Avenue West in Guelph — proving that teamwork and a little luck can go a long way.
