Charlotte Woman Wins $4M Lottery After Buying Ticket at Asheville Store

A Charlotte woman just turned her long workday into a $4 million win — and her story is one for the books.

Swati Amin made a 250-mile round trip from Charlotte to Asheville, and while that sounds like a serious commitment for a lottery ticket, there’s more to the story. Lottery officials shared that Amin sometimes works at BJ’s Food Mart on Michigan Avenue — the very place where she picked up her lucky $30 Carolina Black Premier scratch-off after clocking out.

And lucky it was. Amin hit the game’s top prize, defying odds of 1 in 2,462,700 — a jaw-dropping win that made her the first person ever to snag the $4 million jackpot in this game.

When she showed up at lottery headquarters on November 7 to claim her winnings, she faced a big decision:

  • Option 1: Take $200,000 a year for 20 years

  • Option 2: Grab a lump sum of $2.4 million

Amin didn’t hesitate — she went for the lump sum. After state and federal taxes, she walked away with a cool $1,722,008.

It’s a win that’s got plenty of players dreaming big, but maybe not everyone will be driving 250 miles for their shot at fortune.
