From Taxi Driver to Multi-Million Winner: His Third Lottery Jackpot

A retired taxi driver in Canada is proving that lightning really can strike more than once. In fact, it struck three times for 73-year-old Marcel Leclaire — turning his lottery hobby into millions of dollars over the past several years.

🎉 Another Big Win for a Very Lucky Player

Leclaire recently celebrated yet another win after scratching a ticket worth $88,888 CAD (about $65,356 USD) at the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Prize Centre in Toronto.

Even though it wasn’t his biggest prize, the moment was still unforgettable.

“Even though it was my third big win, the feeling was just as intense as the first,” Leclaire said with a huge smile.

He immediately shared the exciting news with his brother, who was thrilled for him.

🏆 His Lottery Luck Over the Years

Leclaire’s latest win adds to an already incredible streak:

  • March 2017: Won $1 million CAD playing Encore

  • Last year: Landed a massive $3 million CAD prize

  • Most recent win: Scratched off $88,888 CAD

That’s more than $4 million CAD in total winnings over nine years.

🎟️ Why He Picked That Scratch Ticket

Leclaire bought his newest winning ticket at a small variety store in Greater Sudbury. The game was called Instant Lunar 8s, which has odds of about 1 in 3.61.

The reason he chose that ticket? A little sports inspiration.

  • The number 88 reminded him of hockey star David Pastrnak

  • Pastrnak famously wears jersey number 88, and Leclaire is a big fan.

That simple connection turned out to be a very lucky choice.

💡 His Previous Big Wins Came From Different Strategies

Interestingly, Leclaire doesn’t always choose tickets the same way.

When he won $3 million CAD, the decision was much simpler.

“The ticket looked shiny and caught my eye, so I bought it,” he said.

His very first million-dollar win in 2017 came from a tradition he followed after work. He regularly played Encore, a Canadian lottery add-on game that gives players a random seven-digit number.

At first, he thought the prize was small.

“I checked my tickets at home and thought I won $1,000… then $10,000. Then I realized I had all the numbers — $1 million.”

🏡 What He Plans to Do With the Money

Leclaire isn’t planning anything too flashy with his latest winnings.

Instead, he says he wants to:

  • Buy a new home

  • Put money into savings

  • Travel across Canada

With seven brothers and sisters living around the country, one of his biggest dreams is simply to visit family and reconnect with loved ones.

For Leclaire, the lottery hasn’t just brought money — it’s brought more chances to enjoy life and spend time with the people who matter most.
