Georgia’s Biggest Powerball and Mega Millions Winners
A massive $1 billion Powerball jackpot is up for grabs Wednesday night, making it the eighth-largest jackpot in Powerball history. The cash option is estimated at $433.1 million before taxes.
The drawing will air live Wednesday before WSB Tonight at 11 p.m. on Channel 2.
Georgia has seen plenty of major lottery wins over the years, with both Powerball and Mega Millions players taking home life-changing prizes.
Powerball Winners in Georgia
Georgia began selling Powerball tickets on January 31, 2010. Since then, several tickets sold in the state have hit the jackpot.
- September 18, 2010: Nichelle Leando LLC of Mableton won $116 million with a ticket sold at Heby’s Shell in Mableton.
- June 29, 2011: A $77 million jackpot ticket was sold at Pilot Travel Center #0312 in Tallapoosa, but the prize was never claimed.
- September 14, 2011: Kathy Scruggs won $25 million with a ticket purchased at Shell Food Mart in Decatur.
- September 17, 2016: William and Heather ten Broeke won $246.8 million from a ticket sold at Publix Super Market #1363 in Brookhaven.
- October 23, 2024: Two anonymous winners shared a $478.2 million jackpot from a ticket sold at Quick Mart in Buford.
Georgia’s Mega Millions Jackpot Winners
Georgia’s history with Mega Millions goes back even further. The state began selling tickets for The Big Game in 1996, before the game was renamed Mega Millions in 2002.
Since then, Georgia has produced at least 16 Mega Millions jackpot-winning tickets.

- November 11, 2003: Stephen Cooke — $70 million, split with another winner in Michigan

- March 6, 2007: Eddie Nabors — $390 million, split with a New Jersey winner

- November 14, 2025: An anonymous winner claimed a massive $983 million jackpot, with a $453.6 million cash option. The winning ticket was sold at a Publix on Highway 29 in Newnan.
With Georgia already having a long list of major lottery winners, Wednesday night’s $1 billion Powerball jackpot could add another huge chapter to the state’s lottery history.
