The World Lottery Association (WLA) is sending a strong vote of confidence to Ghana, with its President, Mr. Andreas Kotter, praising the country’s readiness to host the World Lottery Summit in 2028.

During a working visit to Ghana last week, Mr. Kotter met with the Director-General of the National Lottery Authority (NLA), Alhaji Mohammed Abdul-Salam, along with Deputy Director-General Mr. Eric Yeboah Wadie and the NLA Executive Management team. Accompanying him were WLA Executive Director Lucas Esposito and Events Coordinator Francois Pellaud-Pautrot.

The purpose of the visit was clear:

  • Check out conference facilities and infrastructure firsthand

  • Assess Ghana’s readiness beyond theoretical reports

  • Send a strong message of confidence in Africa’s lottery potential

“I saw your vision for Ghana—to make its mark and become a preferred host for the World Lottery Summit in Africa. This is the right approach, and I will personally support this vision,” Mr. Kotter said.

He also praised the NLA for:

  • Its operational efficiency

  • Its impact on society through strong corporate social responsibility programs

Mr. Kotter congratulated the NLA on winning the trust of the WLA Executive Committee as a viable candidate to host the 2028 Summit. He also hinted at the possibility of a WLA Executive Committee meeting in Ghana in June 2026.

Explaining why the delegation came to Ghana, he said:

“We wanted to experience Accra’s infrastructure firsthand and send a clear signal of confidence in Africa. This continent has tremendous potential, and we want to support our WLA members here in person.”

He added that Ghana’s rich history and culture left a lasting impression.

“It’s a memory we will treasure and never forget.”

If approved, Ghana would make history as the first West African country to host the World Lottery Summit. Mr. Kotter pointed out that the NLA has already demonstrated strong hosting capabilities:

  • African Lotteries Association Board of Directors meeting, Accra, December 2025

  • ALA Seminar on Responsible Gaming, December 2022, attracting over 150 delegates from Africa, Europe, and North America

In response, Alhaji Abdul-Salam expressed heartfelt gratitude:

“Thank you for visiting and seeing firsthand what Ghana has to offer. We sincerely appreciate your consideration and your recognition of our efforts and capabilities.”

With this visit, Ghana is not just showcasing its facilities—it’s positioning itself as a rising hub for global lottery events in Africa, ready to welcome the world in 2028.
